Our Story

Southwest Tasmania Candles was born in June 2023 from our deep love of nature and a desire to bring the benefits of pure beeswax into our homes. After searching for a pure beeswax candle that was organically produced, clean-burning, and made with care from the beekeeper to the candle maker, we decided to create our own because we couldn't find one!

Our journey led us to discover the stunning beeswax from Miellerie, a Tasmanian beekeeping treasure known for its biodynamic practices and honey sourced straight from the pristine wilderness. Southwest Tasmania Candles are made in small batches from seasonal hive capping wax with its beautiful golden colour and scent of nectar. 

We believe that simplicity and quality go hand in hand and the result is always elegant. Every candle we make is hand-poured in small batches and minimally wrapped with care and B-Corp eco-friendly packaging from Heaps Good. It's about honouring Tasmania’s serene wilderness to bring its pure light and clean air into your home. 

In 2018, our founder and candle maker (then Naturopath and Clinical Ayurvedic Practitioner) Lesley O'Brien captured how to live this way in a 10 step method called Bold Freedom. When she's not pouring candles, Lesley is a Health Sciences Researcher. She published the Bold Freedom method into a book - available in paperback, ebook and audiobook - so you can create days you want to show up for, just like we do.
